“It Was on Sale…”

  • Post author:

I may have made a tiny omission this week.

My partner asked the inevitable question:

“So… how much did the new club cost?”

Without hesitation, I replied, “It was on sale.”

Now, before anyone accuses me of lying, let me be perfectly clear.

It was on sale.

What I conveniently forgot to mention was that it was still $650.

In the golfing world, that’s practically a bargain. At least that’s the story I was telling myself while clicking “Add to Cart.”

Golf has a remarkable ability to convince otherwise sensible people that a single piece of equipment is the missing ingredient. This driver promises more forgiveness. That putter guarantees confidence. The latest wedge apparently contains technology developed by NASA.

Deep down, we know a new club won’t magically erase years of questionable swing mechanics.

But then you hit one perfect shot during the demo.

One.

Suddenly you’re standing at the checkout convinced your handicap is about to plummet.

Fast forward to the first tee…

Same swing.

Same slice.

Just with a much shinier club.

Do I regret buying it?

Absolutely not.

Do I regret explaining the credit card statement afterwards?

Let’s just say next time I’ll be leading with, “The good news is… it was on sale.”

Confession accepted.

What’s the biggest golf purchase you’ve ever tried to justify?
